We recently visited Vittles at the Park in Durham for lunch after seeing it featured on TikTok. While the experience was good overall, it didn't quite live up to the high expectations set by the hype. I ordered the fried catfish with candied yams and mac and cheese, while my husband opted for the fried flounder with mac and cheese and green beans. The food was satisfying, with the fish being well-cooked and flavorful, but the sides were hit-or-miss. The mac and cheese, while creamy, lacked that extra pop of flavor I was hoping for, and the candied yams were a touch too sweet for my taste. My husband enjoyed his meal but felt the flavors didn't quite stand out compared to other Southern spots we've tried. The service was friendly, but it was noticeably slow, which was a bit frustrating given that it wasn't overly busy when we visited. That said, the staff made an effort to be welcoming, which we appreciated. The seating area was a bit bland and uninspired and some art or posters would help. The gospel music played created a calm vibe. Overall, Vittles at the Park is a decent spot for Southern comfort food, but it may not fully match the hype if you're coming in with sky-high expectations from TikTok. It's worth trying, but I'd temper expectations for the overall experience.

Food, excellent. Service, exceptional. Only 10min wait . Wish I could have given more than 5 stars!! My only complaint was eating off of a spork. Now excuse me while I squeeze into my tiny shirt as my big back has no room.

Everything I've tasted has been so good especially the yams, collards and collard/cabbage mix and the brown stewed chicken. My only criticism is the fish was too salty. The customer service is immaculate!! The deserts and lemonades are fantastic too!!

This place is great! We were greeted immediately by the young lady at the front entrance. Our food was served within 10 minutes. My partner loved his oxtails and sides. The rice was a bit too spicy for him but he loved the food overall. I had Cajun catfish. It was cooked to perfection though I couldn't taste the Cajun seasoning. I loved the plantain. They were room temperature as the rest of my meal was made fresh. I'd go back!

When I say they put their whole foot in this food, I mean it. (For those of you who don't understand what that means, it means the food is REALLY REALLY good). I had been craving oxtails and was at an event around the corner so I decided to pick up dinner. I had the oxtails with candied yams and Mac & cheese with rice and peas. It was amazing! It reminded me of family gatherings. The oxtails were tender and the gravy was perfect! I will definitely come back. The customer service was excellent! 10/10 definitely recommend.

My friend saw this place on TikTok and wanted to try it since we were in the area - And honestly, she had me sold at fried ribs!! We walked in and the line moved pretty quick, we were greeted by the friendly cashier who was so nice and great at making recommendations! This is a black owned business and boy have they hit mark with customer service! Love to see it!! I asked what was her favorite items on the menu and she mentioned a few things one of which was oxtail so I decided to go with that, and also ordered wings for the boy's and fried ribs to take home. They had delicious side choices and such a variety that it was hard to choose. For each meal you can choose either 1 side or two. I selected mashed potatoes, turkey greens, Mac n cheese, Candied yams. They were all delicious and the yams in my opinion were just okay, I felt like they were a little more firm than I like and were a bit under seasoned (not as sweet), however my friend loved them that way - So, I guess it depends on your palette. My friend ordered the fried ribs and a bunch of sides which were - potatoe salad, fried okra, white rice with oxtail gravy, turkey greens and the yams. She loved all her sides and stated the greens were just okay - I happened to really enjoy the greens. Listen, we sat at our table by the window and patiently waited for our names to be called. This place isn't that big, they are four seater tables and very limited room, so I can see them filling up pretty quickly on a busy night, I didn't like that they had the heat on because it gets really warm really quick in small spaces. Conversations also overlap each other as again the space is tight, but clean and efficient! "Order for Stephanie" - I grabbed my food that was staked nicely and placed in a black plastic bag, the food is served in Styrofoam to go containers but we decided to dine in cause we were hungry. I did not get to photograph the food because we all sat at that tiny table and inhaled almost all of it! The food was fresh, seasoned to perfection and just oh so delicious! The oxtail - 10/10 - Seasoned to perfection, tender fall off the bones, served over a bed of rice and beans and plantains, this was in addition to the two other sides it came with, all for about $24 which in my opinion is a steal. The fried ribs - 8/10 - These were also seasoned to perfection and served with a carolina sauce, the meat was tender and falling off the bones. $16+ tax with two sides. The fried chicken wings - 10/10 - When asked about the wings my 7yr old said "Thumbs Up Mom". - They were beautifully golden brown and fried to perfection! He also really enjoyed the mashed potatoes. We also ordered dessert, my friend had the birthday cake with sprinkles and I had the strawberry cake! Both were outstanding! I managed to take a photo of the remnants of my strawberry cake... So happy we got to try this spot out, Support this black business! Friendly staff, clean establishment, fast service, fresh delicious food that tastes like it was made with love, go get you some!
